Weather in May in Japan

In May, Tokyo and Kyoto enjoy some of the most pleasant weather of the year, with spring fully settled and early summer still at bay. Daytime temperatures typically range from the high teens to mid-20s °C (mid-60s to mid-70s °F), with cooler, comfortable evenings. Humidity is moderate, skies are often bright, and rainfall is relatively light compared to the June rainy season, though occasional showers do occur. Fresh greenery fills the cities and surrounding landscapes following the cherry blossom season, marking the height of shinryoku, or “new green,” when parks, gardens, and mountain views are especially lush and vibrant. Mid-May is particularly special, coming just after Golden Week, when crowds thin and the pace of life feels calmer and more refined. We hope that many of you will be able to join us during this exceptional time of year.
